Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm — Grass Valley, United States
A Sivananda yoga ashram, farm and retreat in Northern California
Sivananda Yoga Farm is an ashram in Northern California, open year-round. Guests can stay for a minimum of two nights, or come as day guests for a half or full day. The ashram asks visitors to call or register ahead.
The teaching follows a lineage the ashram names as Swami Sivananda, Swami Vishnudevananda and Swami Sitaramananda. Its stated mission is practicing and teaching the ancient yogic knowledge of health, peace, unity in diversity and Self-realization. Its vision is that inner peace will bring outer peace. A daily morning satsang anchors the schedule, and Swami Sita leads weekly international satsangs online.
The grounds do much of the teaching. There are gardens and orchards, lavender fields, a walking labyrinth, Vrindavan Pond, temples and shrines, and a Well-being Center offering massage treatments. Meals are vegetarian. The lavender is also distilled and sold as Yoga Farm Essence, a hydrosol and essential oil, and the calendar includes a Lavender Harvest and a Prana & Yuba River program.
The study programs are broad. They include teacher training courses, an advanced course, the Sadhana Intensive, a Yoga Health Education training and a new Peace Educator Training. There are also self-healing retreats, Ayurveda and Pancha Karma, a Yoga Vacation, and permaculture design certification. Scriptural study covers the Bhagavad Gita, the Raja Yoga Sutras, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Viveka Chudamani. The year is marked by Vedic festivals such as Sivaratri, Navaratri and Diwali. The Sivananda Yoga Farm is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
